Ian Mevis is an experienced litigation and trial attorney based in Appleton, Wisconsin, with a career spanning over fifteen years of dedicated service in both public and private practice. He spent more than a decade as an Attorney with the Trial Division of the Wisconsin State Public Defender, where he maintained a robust litigation practice. Throughout his tenure, Mr. Mevis has successfully navigated thousands of complex cases to resolution, managed high-stakes crisis situations, and established a strong, confident courtroom presence. His versatile legal expertise spans criminal defense, civil commitments, guardianships, protective placements, and child support enforcement. A strong advocate for therapeutic justice, he is also an active member of the Outagamie County Drug and Alcohol Treatment Court, employing a holistic defense approach to encourage rehabilitation and systemic support for his clients.
Mr. Mevis earned his Juris Doctor from Marquette University Law School, where he was recognized for his public service as a member of the Pro Bono Society with over 225 donated hours. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in Philosophy from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and brings a global perspective to his work, having volunteered with Child Family Health International in Oaxaca, Mexico.

Prior to joining the State Public Defender's office, Mr. Mevis spent five years as a litigation attorney with Menn Law Firm, Ltd., where he was admitted to practice in both State and Federal court (Eastern District of Wisconsin). During this time, he managed a diverse civil litigation portfolio, including personal injury, worker’s compensation, business litigation, insurance defense, and municipal prosecution. His foundational legal training includes serving as an S.C.R. 50 student-certified clinical intern for the State Public Defender, as well as clerking for prominent regional firms, giving him a deep-seated familiarity with the Fox Valley legal community from the very beginning of his career.
Beyond his legal practice, Mr. Mevis is a deeply committed community leader and advocate. He currently serves as the Chair of the Board of Directors for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Fox Valley, following successive leadership terms as Vice Chair and Board Member. His civic engagement also extends to environmental and recreational stewardship, having served multiple terms on the Board of Directors and Advisory Council for Fox Cities Greenways, Inc., where he spearheaded local trail planning and cycling advocacy. An avid cyclist and outdoor enthusiast, Mr. Mevis loves spending time in the outdoors and bike riding with his wife and two children, especially up in Door County.
